Untangle

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 10, 2026

Untangle is a product of MakeLabs (“we,” “us,” “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use Untangle (the “Service”).

1. What We Collect

Account information

When you sign up, we collect your name and email address via our authentication provider, Clerk. Clerk manages password storage and session security on our behalf — we never see or store raw passwords.

Your uploaded file

When you upload a Gmail export (.mbox file) to scan your inbox history, that file is processed entirely in your browser. It is not uploaded to, transmitted to, or stored on our servers. We never see your raw email content.

Scan results (only if you choose to save them)

If you save your results to return to later, we store the aggregated output of the scan: sender/service name, sending domain, number of emails from that sender, category (Personal/Business/Newsletter/Other), the date of the most recent email, and the associated unsubscribe link. We do not store your email subject lines, message bodies, attachments, or the individual email addresses of people who emailed you.

Payment information

Payments for the one-time Pro upgrade are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card details — Stripe handles this directly under its own security and compliance standards.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate the Service (authentication, displaying your scan results, processing payment)
  • To communicate with you about your account or the Service (e.g., product updates, support responses)
  • To improve the Service (aggregate, non-identifying usage patterns only)

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services We Use

  • Clerk — authentication and account management
  • Convex — database and backend infrastructure for storing account and scan-result data
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Vercel — application hosting

Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy and security policies, which you can review on their respective websites.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information and saved scan results for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 6).

5. Data Security

We apply standard security practices, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) throughout the Service, environment- isolated secrets, and minimal data collection by design — we architected Untangle specifically to avoid ever touching your raw email content.

6. Your Rights

You may:

  • Request a copy of the data we hold about your account
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@untangleinbox.com. If you are located in India, these rights are provided consistent with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, to the extent applicable.

7. Children's Privacy

Untangle is not directed at individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. International Users

Untangle is operated from India. If you use the Service from outside India, your information will be processed in accordance with this Policy and applicable Indian law.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
